For a new California kitchen, designer Samantha Lyman added a warm patina with a glass sheet backsplash, lights from an old Dutch ship, and delicate, jewel-like hardware.

The cabinets are large in scale, but fine in detail. The knobs are small, one inch rather than an inch and a quarter or an inch and a half. Most people do cabinet hardware too big. When you go with a smaller knob, it feels more like jewelry.
